The question which Reb Zalman raises at the beginning of this class is the same question we need to be raising again today. How do we live through a time of economic constraint, a time when countries in which we live seem unconnected to values and priorities which seem obvious, a time when a desire for peace and harmonious living on this miraculous planet of ours seems at odds with the direction of politics throughout the world?
Reb Zalman proposes that we can respond to these times creatively by broadening our world view and the location of both our needs and the means to satisfy them to include all four of the Lurianic “worlds.” He shows how we have fallen into a narrow understanding of what life is and how we can achieve satisfaction on a deep level. He provides us with an approach to daily prayer which can reconnect us to this larger world view.
